Welcome to PEORIA UNITED PARENT COUNCIL!
 

Peoria United Parent Council (PUPC) is a district wide parent group that has been active in Peoria Unified School District (PUSD) for more than 3 years.

 

Looking out for the interest of students is our primary goal.  We do this by offering parents support, information, and opportunities to be influential voices in the decisions that affect their children's education.  This web site is one way we communicate with you and we invite you to visit our site often to get the information you seek.  Contact us at PeoriaUPC@aol.com to join or just receive free e-bulletins and notices regarding the latest happenings in PUSD.

Accomplishments in 2004-07

  • Presented educational segments on topics of interest to parents
  • Issued regular E-bulletin updates to our network of more than 2100 district parents and community members
  • Offered parents ombudsman help in dealing with school policies
  • Encouraged parent participation on district committees
  • Successfully advocated to close high school campuses at lunchtime in an effort to improve student safety
  • Established a support group for parents of students with special needs
  • Developed and distributed Special Education resources folders for parents
  • Successfully advocated to stop the funding of a private organization with tax dollars intended to pay teachers and purchase classroom supplies
  • Successfully advocated to televise board meetings on Cox channel 99
  • Successfully advocated for a Call to the Public near the beginning of every governing board agenda
  • Hosts school board candidate forums where community members can hear their questions answered each election year
Community Service in 2004-07 include, but not limited to:
  • Annual used book drive for needy children (more than 18000 books collected and distributed in the first 3 years.)
  • Biannual used clothing drive for Peoria students, the West Valley Child Crisis Center, a women's shelter.
  • This year the Parent Council has worked in cooperation with district administrators to stock a lending library, with used books, at the Peoria Transition Center.
    •
  • $500.00 annual grant to district/school project. The first grant was awarded to Peoria Elementary School's used clothing room/program.  The second grand was recently awarded to Peoria's transitional high school for materials necessary to complete a lending library.
  • All PUPC's meetings and information are free.  All community stakeholders are invited to attend meetings of their interest and can get involved by writing to PeoriaUPC@aol.com.
PUPC'S UPCOMING MEETINGS: 

When: Thursday, October 25th at 7-7:30 p.m.
 Location: Peoria School District Office, 6330 W. Thunderbird, in the training room, which is located at the back of  the building.                                                                                                            Topic: PUSD services for students that are experiencing challenges at school and home.

When: Thursday, October 25th at 7:30-8:00 p.m.
 Location: Peoria School District Office, 6330 W. Thunderbird, in the training room.                            Topic: Support Group meeting for Parents of Students with special needs.  ALL PUSD parents are invited to attend this meeting.  Come find out what we’re all about!

 
 

 

Peoria United Parent Council is a parent organization that is in its infancy.  This organization is being formed to have a collective voice for all of the students in the Peoria Unified School District. 

The Paradise Valley United Parent Council has been gracious enough to take us under their wing and help us form our organization.  Their organization has been in existence for 25 years, and they are valued as an integral part of their district.

We are excited to have Peoria United Parent Council, and we are looking forward to a strong, productive relationship with the parents, families, students, teachers, administration, and residents of the Peoria Unified School District.
